Ignition National Movement 1000 Digital Startup

1000 Digital Startup National Movement is a movement that is initiated by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics of the Republic of Indonesia  to realize the vision of Indonesia as Digital Energy of Asia, as declared by the President of the Republic of Indonesia in Silicon Valley in February. This activity is a form of collaboration between government institutions, business and education, which will be held in 10 cities in Indonesia. Yogyakarta became one of the convening of this movement and Universitas Gadjah Mada took part in this activity together with PT. Kibar Kreasi Indonesia. In order to contribute to realizing the dream of creating a future Indonesian digital economy that would change the fate of the nation, in line with the vision of UGM as Socio Entrepreneur University, support for the “1000 Digital Startup National Movement” awarded by the Innovative Academy program UGM. The program is a semi-structured incubation activity for students to build technology startups that have a big impact and be useful to society.

The initial stage of this movement is done through the organization of Ignition “1000 Digital Startup National Movement” on Saturday, August 13th, 2016 at Grha Sabha Pramana UGM. This event was attended by over 350 people consisting of participants who elected to follow a series of 1000 Digital Startup program, the students, and a number of startups who are already active in the online business world to declare its full support on this movement.

On that occasion, Guntur Sarwohadi, as mentor of Innovative Academy said, “Innovative Academy gives a significant contribution to the 1000 Digital Startup National Movement, with the essence is from UGM, to Jogja and Indonesia,” he said when giving an explanation of Innovative Academy.

Vice Rector for Cooperation and Alumni Universitas Gadjah Mada, Dr. Paripurna P. Sugarda, SH, LL.M., explained that, “1000 Digital Startup National Movement” is in line with Innovative Academy Program UGM. Indonesia needs a lot of entrepreneurs. UGM students consisted of students full of talent and UGM facilitates a touch of entrepreneurship through Innovative Academy Program.”

The digital era requires a human to become independent, confident and brave so as not excluded by other nations. There are many components that must be held to be a winner, take a role in accordance with their respective portions. Innovative Academy UGM is a commitment to the spirit of socio-entrepreneurship for the mission to the public. The presence of Innovative Academy 4.0 which opens an opportunity for participants from outside to be actively involved in the incubation activities proven that UGM as a center of creativity, which is collaborating with various parties, both the government and the community.

“The 1000 digital startup Program is the beginning to foster the spirit of digital, consistent with the mission, support and collaboration,” he added.

Yansen as the inisator of “1000 Digital Startup National Movement” were present to motivate the younger generation of Indonesia, creating quality startups and provide a positive impact to resolve the existing problems in Indonesia.

“1000 startup Movement is delivered from of UGM. Four years ago, there were Apps development program at UGM. After the project, the Rector, Mr. Pratikno asked, what will be done after this?” said Yansen, remembering the past.

“From Mr. Pratikno’s question, a similar program was held back at this oldest University who uphold human values and socio-entrepreneurship. Jogja is a nest for developer. Together with the Minister, “1000 Digital Startup National Movement” encourage Indonesian children to be a player, not the consumer,” said Yansen, the CEO of Kibar.

Minister of Communications and Informatics, Rudiantara appreciated the spirit of UGM in imparting socio-entrepreneurship. He said, “Innovative Academy Processes in shaping the field of digital entrepreneur bore a different man, explores young souls who are full of talent into the center of gravity from innovation ideas” he said.

In a keynote speech Ignition, Rudiantara said the Vision of 1000 Digital Startup Movement is to make Indonesia as “The Digital Energy of Asia.” It has the potential of digital economic products with e-commerce worth 130 billion dollars in 2020 based on technology. Indonesia should not only be a market. Indonesia should be able to play in another country. Therefore, the roadmap created by making the 1000 Startup Digital National Movement. The output is to produce digital products in the form of social businesses that have a present value,” he said.

Startups who became a panelist at the Ignition event provide diverse insight for startup founders who want to pioneer. Some of the themes presented by the panelists include, The Art of Entrepreneurship, Building Startup Mindset, Don’t Start a Business Solve a Problem, Empowering Communities to Grow the Ecosystem, and The Next Generation of Bloggers. Through these themes, patterns of thought and creativity of founder can grow and develop to realize the dream startup.

This activity is a concrete effort by UGM to strengthen the startup ecosystem in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, which is known as a center for education, research, and creativity in Indonesia.
