UGM and UTM Strengthen Innovation Synergy through Benchmark Visit to GIK

Yogyakarta, October 10, 2025 — Gadjah Mada University (UGM) welcomed a visit from the Academic Support Unit (UPA) for Technology and Leading Product Development (PTPU) of Trunojoyo Madura University (UTM) at the UGM Innovation and Creativity Center (GIK). This event serves as a strategic opportunity to strengthen the exchange of knowledge and experience in innovation management and the development of flagship products within the higher education sector.

The UTM delegation was welcomed by the UGM Business Development Directorate team. In the opening session, Diana Kestanti, S.E., Head of the Business Management and Development Sub-Directorate, presented the Research Commercialization, Business-Entrepreneurship, and Intellectual Property Management (IPMO) Program implemented at the UGM Science Techno Park (STP). She emphasized the importance of transparent governance, cross-unit collaboration, and strengthening partnership networks to encourage the downstreaming of research results into products with economic value.

The activity took place interactively through discussions that addressed the challenges, opportunities, and strategies for developing business units in state universities. Participants also discussed best practices in innovation management and research-based entrepreneurship.

As part of the agenda, the UTM delegation enthusiastically conducted field visits to various innovation support facilities in the UGM GIK area. Dr. Ris Yuwono Yudo Nugroho, S.E., M.Si., Head of the UTM Integrated Services and Business Development Unit (PTPU), expressed his appreciation for UGM’s openness in sharing its experiences and business process practices.

This activity served as a moment for UGM and UTM to commit to strengthening their collaboration in building a sustainable innovation ecosystem, enhancing the development of flagship products, and increasing entrepreneurial capacity within the higher education environment.

This activity is a concrete effort by UGM to strengthen the startup ecosystem in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, which is known as a center for education, research, and creativity in Indonesia.
