Scope of Downstream
UGM as a socio-entrepreneurial university is committed to carrying out a mandate in producing research or university innovation products so that they can be accepted and beneficial to industry and society at large. This is manifested by the Rector Decree no. 858 / P / SK / HT / 2012. UGM implements role in delivering education that synergize industrial entities and higher education through the link and match based competency so in tune with central and local government work. The estuary of this synergy program comes from the UGM Science Techno Park (UGM STP) and UGM Teaching and Learning Industry (UGM TLI). UGM STP develops products in various competitive fields in collaboration with the government and industry. UGM TLI is an innovative, dynamic, and competency-oriented learning process that is appropriate to the needs of society.
Partnership and Collaboration Strategy
UGM develops innovations in various fields, according to its competencies and collaborates with the government and industry, where the UGM main campus is the center of gravity for innovation creation and innovation area satellites that are distributed in several regions. UGM is committed to implementing the socio-entrepreneurial university concept through the incubation process of technology-based startups, sustainable commercial research, spin-offs, and factory-oriented programs.
The scheme of downstream research at UGM is described in the picture above. Various research results conducted by researchers in laboratories, faculties, and study centers that have been protected by intellectual property (KI) by the Research Directorate will be included in the facilitation process of the Directorate of Business Development and Incubation which acts as a technology transfer office (TTO) to select the feasibility of research to be further developed in commercialization or downstream scheme.
In carrying out its function as a TTO, the Directorate of Business Development and Incubation collaborates in harmony with the Directorate of Research, Directorate of Community Service, Faculties / Schools, Study Centers, and Integrated Research and Testing Laboratories. The Directorate of Business Development and Incubation encourages UGM activity units to collaborate with three main elements in Academics, Business and Government (ABG), known as the Triple Helix concept. These three elements are expected to help synergize efforts to prepare competitive human resources and industrial products to win global competition.
