The Directorate of Business Development and Incubation in its capacity as TTO is tasked with identifying research results that have the potential to be released and utilized by stakeholders. The scheme used for the downstream process of research and innovation results is:
1. Spin-out
Mekanisme transfer teknologi ini dilakukan dengan membentuk sebuah perusahaan baru dengan alternatif skema sebagai berikut:
- Own company with ownership of UGM and/or UGM Business Activity Unit (UKU).;
- Partially separate the business of the company that becomes UKU(spin-off) so that assets, liabilities and equity are managed independently as an independent and professional business; or
- Joint company (joint venture) by sharing resources (assets, funding, innovation and human resources) which are bound in an Operational Cooperation Agreement (KSO) with state-owned or private partners.
2. License Utilization
Utilization of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) can take the form of licensing patents, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, etc. Cooperation on license utilization is carried out by UGM and industrial partners through the following tiered priorities:
- Given top priority to UKU UGM companies;
- Awarded to UGM start-up companies that are currently interested or have a connection in the field of innovation and technology; or
- If no one is capable or it is difficult to manage, it can be given to private partners.
3. Startup Company (Startup)
If the results of research and innovation are considered potential in terms of the product but are not yet market ready, then the product will be accelerated for a maximum of two years as a start-up company until it is decided that it meets the qualifications to be commercialized. Acceleration activities can take the form of market tests, substance tests, pre-adoption tests, etc. that are tailored to the product and business development needs of each startup company. Start-up companies can be formed by students, lecturers and alumni who have innovation and technology, and have participated in incubation and acceleration programs organized by incubators and accelerators owned by UGM.
