The Directorate of Business Development (DITPU) is a directorate that plays a strategic role in increasing the productivity of business units and accelerating the incubation and downstreaming of the results of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) research. This directorate contributes to achieving the University’s targets and performance. In order to achieve this target, three cooperation schemes were developed, namely:
- Downstreaming of academic research products within UGM (internally and academically-driven);
- Downstreaming collaborative research products with strategic partners to meet industrial needs (externally and industrially-driven);
- Downstreaming of products resulting from combining the concepts of business development and community empowerment (community development-driven).
The business cooperation schemes carried out by the university include joint ventures, joint operations (KSO), licensing, and other cooperative activities that do not burden the University’s financial budget. The leading research priorities incubated at DITPU are classified into five areas, namely: (1) Health; (2) Manufacturing, Engineering, Information and Communication Technology (MRTIK); (3) New and Renewable Energy; (4) Integrated Agriculture; (5) Heritage, Art, and Culture Sustainability Management (HACSM). In business development, the Directorate of Business Development carries out the tasks of (1) planning business development activities to support the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education; (2) coordinating the activities of business development units; (3) monitoring and controlling business activity units and student accommodation facilities; and (4) maintaining the sustainability of business development, both on the main campus and in other places that are the responsibility and/or under the control of the university. The Directorate of Business Development also develops incubation systems and models based on UGM research products, as well as partnerships based on mutual benefit with various strategic partners. With this work unit, DITPU synergizes and coordinates in encouraging the development of the entrepreneurial capacity of the academic community for business and national independence, as well as micro, small, and medium business activities. In carrying out these duties, DITPU carries out various functions, including as a liaison between innovation results, the university’s Tri Dharma philosophy, the needs of stakeholders, determining models, and implementing business development and incubation, as well as controlling the activities of business units so that they are in accordance with the university’s vision and mission.
