Innovating Jogja is a program initiated by the halls of the industry under the Ministry of Industry, EU-Indonesia Trade Cooperation Facility (TCF) and Bank BNI. Not forgot to mention, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) as a Socio-Entrepreneur-based university took part in the activitiy. Based on the study of EU-Indonesia TCF, Jogja becomes areas that have potential for business innovation to be developed.
On Saturday, July 30, 2016, Innovating Jogja program successfully held in Room A, 1st Floor Grha Sabha Pramana UGM. The program started with an open presentation delivered by Firrisky Nurtomo (Senior Advisor European Union Desk BKPM) as well as representatives of the EU-Indonesia TCF. He revealed that, “Jogja serve as a Pilot Project of official government funding programs supported by Bank BNI. The program is in the form of a competition to create business innovation in the field of batik, leather goods, or an appropriate and useful craft. The kind of innovation can be a marketing system or on batik dyeing, and so forth.”
He said, “Innovation Product can be in the form of digital products, services, and end products. Innovating Jogja concept held in order to improve the commercial competitiveness and productivity of industrial sector of batik, leather and handicrafts, including the export potential through innovative approaches. In addition, it is hoped that a new start-up company can be established from the existing and developing business through innovation development that is able to sustain.”
The Ministry of Industry were represented by Ir. Isananto Winursito, M.Eng, Ph.D. as Head of Center for Leather, Rubber and Plastics (CLRP) said that, the scope of the Innovating Jogja program is limited to the industry of batik, leather and handicrafts. Ceramics and pottery sector have not been able to participate. Then, the location was restricted to the area of Yogyakarta. Outside Yogyakarta, Semarang for example, if you want to join the program enacted specific terms and conditions. There is no age limit to join the program of Innovating Jogja.
Sang Kompiang Wirawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D, as Head of Incubation of Universitas Gadjah Mada fully support the Innovating Jogja program. “Jogja Generation who have creative ideas can meet each other in Innovating Jogja program to create innovation”, said Kompiang.
He also asserts that, in making an innovation that product such as digital products, it cannot stand alone. Such products require the support of government and private, to work together to accelerate the digital product that can promote economic sectors.
“Innovating Jogja as well as Innovative Academy program led by the Directorate of Business Development and Incubation UGM create product of digital for life. Digital product business which is engaged in various fields is facilitated by mentorship in Entrepreneur Development Service (EDS) UGM. Indonesia’s young generation innovation results should be combined with more extensive promotion to market the product innovation”, explained Kompiang.
In the presentation, Firrisky Nurtomo also describes the stages to join Innovating Jogja. “Innovating Jogja program starts with administrative selection. Innovating Jogja program can be followed by the academic community and the general public who are interested in the productivity of the industry of batik, leather and handicrafts, with the provision of production activities are in Yogyakarta. Next activity is Boot Camp for 3 (three) days, then the candidate will be selected to 12 (twelve) participants. Participants who qualify will follow the incubation stage, Acceleration Program. And in the end, the idea of innovation is realized into a digital prototype or goods. Participants who qualify to become champion will only be taken 3-6 participants, who will be given capital/reward and assistance by Bank BNI in order to able to sustain, to be able to Go International “, said Firrisky.
“Do not hesitate to follow Innovating Jogja program, either register individually or in teams. One person who sends business proposals with different ideas are allowed to register, because the jury votes the business proposal”, concluded Firrisky.
Head of Small Credit Center BNI explained that, “The funds for reward obtained from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which is correspond to the needs of business and business continuity to lead to a commercial business”.
