Medan, 31st October 2024 – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) reaffirmed its commitment to empowering Indonesia’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through collaboration with the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs. The 2024 Independent Micro Business Mentorship Program, launched in April 2024, aims to enhance competitiveness, strengthen business networks, and accelerate MSME growth across sectors.

The program has attracted 2,578 MSMEs from various sectors, including culinary, fashion, creative economy, home decor, agriculture, plantation, fisheries, and tourism. Twenty nationally selected MSMEs from Aceh and Medan participated in intensive training on business development strategies, marketing, and financing.

Attendees included Retno Indrayani (Head of Small Business Empowerment, North Sumatra Cooperatives and SMEs Department), Arief Sudarsono (UGM’s Head of Science and Technology Park Management), and Martshudy Khahar (Policy Analyst, Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs).

This mentorship program envisions advancing MSMEs to higher levels, significantly increasing production capacity, aligning with the “MSMEs Go Up” slogan. “We hope this program fosters competitive MSMEs capable of competing globally,” stated the Head of Cooperatives and SMEs Department.

This initiative demonstrates UGM’s commitment to supporting MSME empowerment, contributing to Indonesia’s economic growth. UGM and the Ministry aim to establish a solid foundation for Indonesian MSMEs to grow, develop, and contribute significantly to the national economy.
