Yogyakarta, June 30, 2025 — Universitas Gadjah Mada welcomed the Review Mission Meeting Program Promoting Research and Innovation through Modern and Efficient Science and Technology Parks Project (PRIMESTeP) at Innovation and Creativity Arena (GIK) UGM. This event was held to evaluate the progress of applied research and startup development supported by a government grant program in collaboration with Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendikti Saintek).
The meeting was officially opened with a speech from the Vice Rector of UGM for Research, Business Development, and Partnerships, Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, S.Si., M.Sc., who emphasized UGM’s commitment to accelerating the commercialization of innovation through collaboration between academics, industry, government, and the community. “PRIMESTeP serves as a strategic tool to enhance national competitiveness through three key pillars: strengthening research facilities, innovation systems, and the institutional framework of Science Techno Park (STP),” he stated.
During the session, five flagship innovations from UGM researchers were presented. These included an ultra-sensitive aroma detector powered by artificial intelligence developed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Jazi Eko Istiyanto, M.Sc.; a portable multispectral prototype for diagnosing Spinal Muscular Atrophy using AI by Prof. Kuwat Triyana; a skin-brightening gel based on calix pyrogallolarene by Prof. Jumina; a tooth restoration solution using local silk fiber by Prof. Siti Sunarintyas; and smart fertilizer-based “Presokazi” rice innovation by Prof. Taryono. In addition to the research presentations, a Mini Expo featured various innovative products developed by the university. Ten startups incubated at UGM STP also showcased their products, such as Attempe (a healthy non-GMO tempeh), Glucosweet (a natural sweetener derived from cassava), and technology-based platforms like Banoo and SonusHub, which offer solar panel solutions through a B2B e-commerce system.
After the presentations, participants toured the Agrotechnology Innovation Center (PIAT) and the Wolbachia Building at UGM STP to see the real-world applications of these health and agroindustry innovations. Dr. Hargo Utomo, MBA, Director of Business Development at UGM STP, emphasized that the visit showcased the tangible impact of the PRIMESTeP program in promoting research commercialization. At the event’s conclusion, UGM expressed gratitude to the ADB and the Kemendikti Saintek PMU team for their continuous support in strengthening the university’s innovation and startup ecosystem. The review mission is expected to encourage further development of impactful innovations for society and contribute to national progress in line with the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).
